The sooner the better! The Grumpy Old Lady recommends to ideally have your order in at least a month in advance for birthday, anniversary, and other special occasion cakes. The minimum notice for those types of cakes is two weeks. For wedding cakes, the Grumpy Old Lady requires at least 60 day notice, but again, the sooner the better to secure your spot for your special day!

The short answer is, it depends! The shape of the cake (round, square, heart, etc.) greatly determines how many servings you will ultimately get from the cake. Also, typically wedding cake slices are smaller than party cake slices, but the Grumpy Old Lady knows that ultimately this is up to you. Absolutely! The Grumpy Old Lady understands it can be stressful transporting a cake, so she is willing to deliver so you can avoid that stress.  Currently there’s no distance limit, but of course, delivery costs go up the further away the delivery is. You are, of course, welcome to pick up your cake. Please contact us for pricing.

The Grumpy Old Lady accepts cash, checks, and Zelle transfers. 

Each cake is very different, and the base price depends on how many servings you will need each cake to provide. Other factors include how much detail and time will be put into making items such as fondant designs, flowers, 3D figurines, etc.  Take a look at our Pricing page for a general idea of costs.  Typically, you can pick up the cake the morning of your event (or have it delivered then). If you need the cake a day or two prior to the event date, PLEASE let the Grumpy Old Lady know in advance. The only exceptions are Sunday mornings, which are unavailable for delivery or pickup (The Good Lord comes first). If your event is for a Sunday morning or Sunday at lunchtime, please let the Grumpy Old Lady know this so we can make alternate pickup/delivery arrangements.

The Grumpy Old Lady requires a 33% down payment in advance for non-wedding cakes, and a 50% down payment in advance for wedding cakes. The Grumpy Old Lady  buys the ingredients for each order individually, so the down payment guarantees all the ingredients and materials needed for your custom cake or dessert are fresh.

What kind of baker doesn’t make cookies and cupcakes? The Grumpy Old Lady 's cupcakes come in varieties of flavors, fillings, and sizes. You can learn more about the cupcakes by visiting the cupcakes page here. The Grumpy Old Lady also makes cookies. Cookies are a custom order, so you will need to contact her so that she can get a better feel for what you’re looking for in terms of cookie type and flavor, as well as pricing, amounts, etc. Visit the cookies page for pictures here.

Fondant is a type of icing that’s very smooth. If you’ve ever watched Food Network or the Cooking Channel and saw a cake that looked like it had impossibly smooth icing, that’s fondant. Some people like it, some people do not. The Grumpy Old Lady's homemade recipe uses a marshmallow base which is quite tasty. Again, your opinion may differ, but she’s had no complaints so far! 

Yes! All tastings are complimentary for weddings that will serve 125+ guests, and we recommend scheduling them well in advance of the event (preferably at least 60 days). The couple/family can taste up to three cake flavors and three fillings of their choice. If you are wanting to try more than three, there will be an additional  charge.  Cake tastings are also a chance to meet with the Grumpy Old Lady to design the cake for your special day, so feel free to bring pictures, color swatches, and plenty of ideas to get a good feel for what you want your wedding cake to look like!

Absolutely! The Grumpy Old Lady likes when people give their guests variety. There is no additional cost to do more than one flavor of cake – chocolate, vanilla, marble, lemon, strawberry, etc. The only additional cost would be if you were to add a specialty batter (carrot cake, almond torte, peanut butter, etc.) or a filling to any of those tiers.
